you can sit with us

Welcome back to the Fizzaliciouz Cafe Club! Every Sunday, I will upload a new post here since Sundays are the ultimate lazy days which means you can take some time, have a drink and chill while catching up on the latest post!

My vision with the drinks I will sell at Fizzaliciouz is to cater to the different needs people may have. Over the past 4 years that I’ve been living in the United States, I have thoroughly enjoyed how I could customize a drink at a café or menu items at restaurants. I would literally ask them to remove or swap an ingredient and they would do it happily! The cafes here usually have options ranging from whole milk to oat/soy/almond milk and sweeteners including simple syrup, honey, and sometimes agave syrup or other sweeteners.

I’m embarrassed to admit this but growing up in Singapore my whole life, I was unfortunately one of those people who thought “why would anyone ever want plant milk instead of whole milk in their drinks??” But that mentality seems to be common in a small country like Singapore, where the most common options are already set in stone for the people living there.

I have since been humbled. Did you know that many vegans avoid consuming honey because it’s an animal-derived product? Yeah, when you think about it, of course it makes sense. But how many of us actually knew that?

Everyone is different and each person has different needs and preferences when it comes to what they eat and drink. It might seem that people are “trying to be different or cool” by wanting a very specific option but in reality, we don’t know what they are dealing with. They could have a chronic illness or an allergy that we have never heard about.

Even something like caffeine vs decaf is an important choice people have to make. For example, in my personal experience, I was having worsening anxiety symptoms after consuming caffeine from coffee drinks. I loved the taste of coffee but I had to give it up because it was making me feel worse each time. At the time, I didn’t even know much about decaf options. Now, I’m able to enjoy drinks at home by using decaf coffee instead!

Having anxiety, gastric problems, acne, headaches and bloating has made me incorporate all sorts of changes to the drinks I make at home just so I can enjoy them. Being on this end of the spectrum where my body gets affected easily has made me truly understand the need for alternative safer options.

I could go on and on about all the alterations I had to make to my drinks but you get the point!

With my return to Singapore, I know I’ll miss having so many of these options readily available at cafes. However, that makes me want to create a place where anyone can take a seat. It doesn’t matter if you need oat milk for health reasons or you just want it because you like it.  Whether you prefer matcha, coffee or you only like refreshing drinks, you are welcome here.

Since Fizzaliciouz is just getting started and I’ll be operating on a small scale, we probably won’t be able to offer every possible variation right from the beginning. However, I’d genuinely love to hear your suggestions as we grow! Knowing what people actually want would help me figure out which ingredients and options are worth bringing in.

If you’re in Singapore, please leave a comment below on what kind of ingredients or drinks you would like cafes to include and maybe, just maybe, you might see it come to fruition here at Fizzaliciouz!
